Let’s Get Technical: Technical SEO

Technical SEO (or search engine optimization) refers to a set of technical practices that help search engines (like Google and Bing) crawl and index your website. It is important for you to understand what these are because they can affect how well your site ranks in the SERPs (search engine results pages).

I understand this is way more technical that I normally go into on my blog, but I thought it may be helpful to dive in a bit deeper to what goes into SEO. So, we'll be discussing some of the most basic aspects of technical SEO including crawling, indexing, caching, robots.txt files, sitemaps, and HTML tags.

How Does the Website Crawling Process Work?

Technical SEO is important because it helps search engines like Google crawl and index your website properly.

To do this, search engines need to be able to access the pages on your website. This process begins when a user enters a query into their search engine (i.e., Google).

The web crawler then follows links that are found in each page's HTML code which leads it closer to all of the URLs available on your site until every single one has been added for crawling.

Once there are no more requests coming from the original searcher, they will begin processing what was crawled by looking at several factors including content freshness, link popularity, anchor text associated with incoming links, and keywords used throughout the document body/metadata tags.

What Does a Technical SEO Campaign Entail?

When you embark on a technical SEO campaign, it's important to understand that there are many different factors at play.

You should consider all the potential problems with crawling and indexing your website so that they can be addressed in an appropriate manner. Some of these issues include site speed, broken links, incorrect redirects, HTML errors (e.g., missing title tags), 404 error pages not being indexed or displayed properly by search engines, duplicate content across URLs, images without alt text or titles attached to them (which affects how well-optimized each page is for certain keyword), among other things.

Vancouver SEO agencies look into all of these things when optimizing a website for search engines.

Should You Conduct Your Own Technical SEO Campaign?

You can conduct a technical SEO campaign on your own or hire an expert to do it for you.

While there are many benefits of being able to handle this type of work from start to finish yourself, hiring a Vancouver SEO professional who specializes in these types of services is recommended if you don't have the time, resources, or knowledge necessary to perform them all by yourself.

The most important benefit that comes with bringing in outside help is the fact that they will already know what areas need attention and how best to go about fixing them so that search engines view your site as relevant/valuable when crawling through its pages.

Google recommends working with an agency whenever possible because they can provide comprehensive support across every channel which makes their performance more reliable over time.
